Parenting & Christianity

I have just finished a good book called “How Would Jesus Raise Your Child”. The book brought up really good point. That most other parenting books by Christian authors leave out a very important factor…Jesus. I never really thought about Jesus’ parenting skills, but look at what he was able to do with a bunch of uneducated fishermen.  He made them into apostles who built the first church. Jesus accomplished this by primarily talking to his disciples using various mathods for them to understand, looking into their hearts for the basis of their actions, words and beliefs and ultimately praying for them. If Jesus could do that with them, imagine what our world would be if parents took the time to actually talk to their children.  Too many parents today always say that they are too busy for their children or they think they can parent like their parents because they turned out okay. If we don’t talk to our children and let them know that we do have time for them, and that they can always come to us with problems, how are they supposed to learn how to deal and move on.

What have I done

I have spent a lot of time lately contemplating my life (turning 30 will do that to you). As I look back I feel disappointed with myself that I was almost 30 before i took my religion seriously. I am also disapponted with the fact that I have not doen anything meaningful with my life. I know that I am blessed with a wonderful life and a beautiful daughter, but I haven’t done anything to better the lives of those around me. I tell my daughter that you should help those in need, but then i drive by homeless people by the bridge without even thinking. I go out shopping for things I don’t need, when there are children and their families who go without.  I was so proud of my little girl when she told me one day that she would give away some of her toys so they some kids wouldn’t go without for christmas.

I feel like God is telling me that I need to be doing more with my life, i just don’t know yet what direction he is trying to pull me toward.
